A New Year Resolution: Resolve for Progress and Growth

Happy New Year friends!

If you are someone who begins the new year setting goals, I have a few tips I would love to share.

First, begin by looking back at the year, reflecting on where you were, and noticing how far you have come. Be sure to write down your accomplishments (yes, really write them down) AND celebrate them!

Savor those good feelings associated with what you have accomplished, take time to really feel them, and acknowledge the personal growth you have achieved. Woot! Woot! (that’s me celebrating with you:) Feel the joy of YOU being proud of YOU!

We are often focused on what we “lack” and forget to experience the joy of what we have done well. You will likely be amazed at the amount of growth you have experienced and the progress you have made.

Second, view goal setting this year as an opportunity for growth and progress. See it as a process of becoming instead of a pursuit you are on that will end with either a pass or fail. With this mindset small achievements can be enjoyed and will feel important.

We can trust a process which allows us to feel our successes as well as learn from our setbacks. We don’t view them as failures. We find joy in knowing we are growing and working toward a goal with the confidence we will eventually getting there.

Third, consider categorizing your goals by relationships. These might include your relationship with God; your relationship with family; your relationship with friends, neighbors, church members, etc.; and your relationship with yourself. Human connection and a focus on our key relationships invite joy into our lives.

Building a support network of trusted individuals for support in life’s journey is a vital aspect of living a healthy and productive life. Plus, it is so fun to celebrate our successes with those we cherish and love!

Next, it is okay to dream big AND it is important to start small. One mistake we make is taking on too much at one time. We get overwhelmed and discouraged and then too often, we quit.

Instead, look at the areas you would like to improve and then choose just one. Then create monthly goals. Then break those down to weekly goals. Finally, create a few daily action items which will help you progress to accomplishing your overall goal.

(As a little bonus, here's a link to a video that demonstrates that process beautifully https://youtu.be/saNkTnJdve0 ).

I specialize in supporting others with personal progression, growth, and goal setting and would love to work with you to help you dream big, start small, and accomplish the growth you desire. I have a few openings available in my schedule for individual coaching sessions and would love the opportunity to work with you! If you are interested, you can reach out to me via email, text, or phone call!

Here’s to another year of growth, progress, and a journey of becoming who God wants us as an individual to become.
